Lugar Center Partnering to Enhance Rural Cardiac Care

Union Hospital's Richard G. Lugar Center for Rural Health, a nationally recognized leader in the development of telemedicine services, has partnered with local rural Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers to incorporate state-of-the-art technology that will significantly benefit rural heart attack patients. A grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Office for the Advancement of Telehealth (OAT) will enable the center to equip rural ambulances with the technology to provide rural patients with the highest level of cardiac care available (Grant # H2ARH20178).

Union Hospital's Richard G. Lugar Center for Rural Health has once again expanded its telehealth program. Thanks to a grant from HRSA's Office for The Advancement of Telehealth (OAT), the Lugar Center has partnered with Union Hospital Clinton and Internal Medicine and Nephrology Inc. to establish the program (Grant # H2ARH20178).

Wabash Valley Rural Telehealth Network Expands Service

Union Hospital Clinton now offers telepulmonology services. As with other telemedicine services provided by Union Hospital Clinton, physicians will be able to remotely consult with a pulmonary specialist to most effectively and efficiently treat patients, and provide a higher level of specialty care. The program will save many patients both time and money by treating cases that would normally require transfer to another facility.

Lugar Center, Parke EMS partner in cardiac care

Union Hospital's Richard G. Lugar Center for Rural Health, a nationally recognized leader in the development of telemedicine services, has partnered with Parke County EMS to put a state-of-the-art solution in place for patients suffering from heart attacks. The program is designed to alert care providers that a heart attack is occurring at the first point of patient contact. This will allow patients suffering from certain types of heart attacks to be routed quickly to a facility that can offer time-sensitive treatment.

Lugar Center Staff Member Invited to Present at International Telemedicine Conference

Lugar Center for Rural Health staff member invited to present at international telemedicine conference Stephanie Laws, R.N., BSN, Manager of the Telehealth and Innovative Technologies Department with the Richard G. Lugar Center for Rural Health at Union Hospital, has been invited to present at the 2012 17th Annual International Meeting and Exposition of the American Telemedicine Association (ATA), to be held April 29th through May 1st in San Jose, CA.

Telenephrology and Internal Medicine at UHC

Union Hospital's Richard G. Lugar Center for Rural Health has once again expanded its telehealth program. Thanks to a grant from HRSA's Office for The Advancement of Telehealth (OAT), the Lugar Center has partnered with Union Hospital Clinton and Internal Medicine and Nephrology Inc. to establish the program.

Manish Gera, M.D., and Kumar Gaurav, M.D., are now providing nephrology and internal medicine services to inpatients at UHC through telemedicine. Patients in the hospital can be referred to the kidney specialist through a live interactive video for acute renal failure, chronic renal failure, high blood pressure and electrolyte disturbances.
